We attempt to understand national art exhibition upon award nominees of 2276 oil paintings in the national art exhibition and printing document (1984-2014) of selected works and index, to look into the secret of prize by data visualization and to find reliable evidence in the noisy art assessment.

 

1.Is oil painting drawn larger and larger in the national art exhibition?

2. Is it easier to win award with larger drawing? 

3. What works those huge oil paintings are?

4. Whose award is the largest? 

5. How many painters have ever been selected or awarded? 

6. Well, which kind of theme is easy to win award?

9. So, are judges all very old?

We try to apply minicomputer to analyze larger visual text in the cultural research field, so as to replace those vague art reviews by data visual design with inquiry as clue and to challenge the depth of cultural research. In this way, visual culture researchers can not only directly see the research objects but also can observe the association in the temporal scenario that accurate detection in a micro sense and wide observation in a macro sense, and finally they will make the reliable judgement.
